Our hiking tips

Lakes

Experience the natural beauty of our surroundings! The Lake Caldaro, just 4.5 kilometers from  Markushof, is not only the largest but also the warmest bathing lake in South Tyrol. In midsummer, the water temperature reaches an impressive 28 degrees. The southern part of the lake is a protected natural area, home to a variety of birds and marshland creatures.

With 4 bathing establishments, restaurants, and parking lots along the shores, Lake Caldaro is a popular meeting point for locals and guests alike. The east and west shores offer an idyllic setting to unwind. A signposted circular walking trail around the lake invites you to a relaxed stroll, jog, or bike ride.

For water sports enthusiasts such as windsurfers, kitesurfers, stand-up paddlers, and sailors, this area provides ideal conditions to indulge in their passion to the fullest.

The enchanting waters of the Big and Small Monticolo Lakes stretch across the Monticolo Forest nature reserve in the picturesque municipality of Appiano. Year after year, both lakes attract locals and guests alike and are a popular destination all year round.

Along the shores of both lakes, you'll find not only two charming bathing establishments but also narrow beaches and rocks perfect for a refreshing dip and relaxing moments by the water.

The Small Monticolo Lake, slightly higher and deeper than its big brother, is nestled in the idyllic forest and hilly landscape of Monticolo near Appiano. Various hiking trails, starting from the Big Monticolo Lake, lead to this natural gem. A small bathing establishment with a sunbathing lawn and a cozy snack station occupies a small part of the lake, while the rest is freely accessible to all nature lovers.

The Big Monticolo Lake is easily accessible by car, public transportation, or various hiking trails. On the shore, Lido Monticolo awaits you with an inviting pool bar and a restaurant perfect for lingering and enjoying the idyllic surroundings.

Small, swimmable mountain bathing lakes also promise refreshment. They convey tranquility and have a mystical aura.

The Fennberger (or Fenner) Bathing Lake presents itself as the jewel of Unterfennberg. This unique biotope is home to over 35 orchid species, crayfish, and a diverse flora and fauna that have found a protected habitat here. Although the lake is designated as a biotope with unusual flora and fauna, a small jetty invites you to swim amid breathtaking panoramas. Access is possible by car as well as hiking trails, and the plateau offers numerous opportunities for relaxed walks. Whether for mountain bikers, motorcyclists, or road cyclists, the plateau is highly recommended as a destination for a bike tour.

In Aldino, the Göllersee awaits you, a small bathing lake that seems to be straight out of a fairy tale, nestled in the middle of the forest. Surrounded by panoramic points like Rotwand and Burgstallegg, the lake offers an idyllic backdrop from which you can overlook the South Tyrolean Unterland as well as the entire Etschtal. The lake is about a 30-minute walk from the starting point at the Aldino fire station via hiking trail No. 17b. This unique combination of swimming and hiking makes Göllersee a truly special experience.
